Reset to Set Boundaries💟
Life is a game and you get to pick the players.
Hey everyone,
How are you really doing?
Honestly, after my last shifts at work, I've been feeling exhausted, both mentally and physically.
I've realized this week that something was missing that could have made things better: boundaries.
Boundaries are limits we set for ourselves and expect others to respect.
Think of your life as a football game.
The field has lines you can't cross, and without those lines, the game (and your life) would be chaotic.
Inputting my finely drawn football field ;)
Setting boundaries is crucial because it gives you a clear idea of what you can tolerate.
And it starts with a simple two-letter word: No.
Saying no is a skill, and like any skill, it takes practice.
Start small and build up.
Plan what you'll say in different situations, respect others' boundaries, and communicate clearly.
Without communication, boundaries become blurry and hard for others to understand.
Here is some food for thought:
1. Boundaries can be flexible. You don't have to stick to the same rule with everyone. You have the choice to set conditions as needed.
2. Be prepared for feedback, positive or negative. People can be reactive, and emotions may come into play. Prepare yourself for this.
3. Create consequences you'll follow through with. For example, if someone doesn't respect your time, let them know you won't include them in future plans if it happens again.
4. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Setting boundaries can feel uneasy, but remember that your resources are finite, and others will respect them only if you do.
Setting boundaries doesn't make you a bad person.
In fact, studies show that people who set boundaries have higher self-esteem and feel more empowered.
Barakallah feek,
